The Rapid City Police Department confirmed this afternoon that it has opened a criminal investigation of the activities of Jason Anderson, a former minor league baseball player who arrived in Rapid City early this spring promising to organize a summer baseball clinic and a series of traveling baseball teams under the name Team South Dakota. Anderson has been accused of defrauding coaches and parents out of $40,000.
Inside Dakota Sports also confirmed that Anderson has warrants for his arrest in Panama City, Florida and Monroe, Michigan relating to charges of fraud and forgery.
Anderson has not checked out of his residence at the Best Western Motel on Rushmore Rd. in Rapid City, but he has not been seen since Wednesday morning when he was identified by Inside Dakota Sports reporters leaving the Rushmore Casino at 2 a.m.. Anderson was driving a blue 2009 Dodge Charger with Montana plates.
