Few were surprised when the sophomore sensation Tamara Gorman broke the tape at the Huron Invitational Saturday afternoon. But the Raiders have continued to prove that they are more than a one-woman show.
The defending Class ‘AA’ state champion Gorman finished in first place at 15:03, and freshman Emily Person came in 12 seconds behind at 15:15.
Shelby Bloodgood was the third Raider runner to crack the top five at 15:35, helping secure a Stevens team victory with 44 points.
Rapid City Central finished in second place in the team standing with 82 points courtesy of a sixth place showing by Hannah Hearn (15:37) and a ninth place finish by Adeline Straatmeyer (15:55).
Gorman has run three races this season and the victory in Huron was her second official win of 2011. She crossed the finish line first at the Douglas Invitational on Aug. 26, and Person followed right behind her, but both were later disqualified for running off the course.
Person won the second meet of the season in Belle Fourche on Sept. 8, finishing a full minute and six seconds ahead of the second place runner.
The Raiders had five runners crack the top 25 Saturday, and the Cobblers had four finishers in the top 20.
Both Stevens and Central are back in action next Friday at the Rapid City Invitational at the Elks Golf Course.

Jake – Tamara has raced three times this season. 1- Douglas – DQ, 2- Augie Meet of Champions – 1st, and 3 – Huron – 1st.
It was the Stevens 1st team victory this year. At Augie they only ran 4.
